Our Specialized Expertise
Unlike skills and knowledge training, cultural learning cannot
be reduced to a “program” or “workshop”.
Successful application requires a seamless integration with
an organization’s current culture development efforts
and change initiatives. This calls for relevant experience
and specialized expertise, such as ours. For example, we were
retained by:
- A large British Columbia Ministry after the vision, guiding
principles and goals of its renewal initiative had already
been developed. We designed an implementation framework
that incorporated cultural learning within the context
of “best practices” and at the level of objectives
and strategies.
- An OD specialist working with a large BC pulp mill in
the transition to a teams-based structure. We provided
cultural learning expertise and strategic advice that
included the design of an instrument to help measure
the development of the essential beliefs for a teams-based
culture.
- A communications and training firm involved in the renewal of a large
municipal recreation system. We designed and facilitated
a process for helping local community associations incorporate
the entrepreneurial beliefs of the new system.
- A unionized social service agency. Facilitation included
a future search conference for the whole organization,
followed by several months of consultation to its “vision
committee” as the final product was developed.
- A high-tech firm. We worked with the formal and informal
leadership in the development of a corporate philosophy
including mission, vision, values and beliefs.
- A service station chain and a chain of office supply stores
to help develop a service excellence culture. The former
project involved ensuring that job descriptions and operational
procedures reflected the requisite cultural beliefs.
- A HRD specialist designing a business development initiative
for the 75 store managers of a retail optical chain.
The cultural learning process involved helping participants
to surface and assess their underlying beliefs regarding
the role of store manager.
- Several small businesses wanting to begin to manage
the development of their company cultures prior to
becoming any larger. These include a:
pet products retail outlet
private business college
clothing store prior
to franchising
small construction company
